A Little About Me
With over 30 years of experience in a variety of human service industries, including 20 years focused on concern management, I have developed the trauma-informed skills required to work effectively with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and professions. My approach is guided by my firm belief in the old adage that people may not remember what you said but they will always remember how you made them feel. I prioritize respect, compassion, and open-mindedness in every interaction, ensuring that everyone I work with feels heard and that their perspectives matter.
For the past 13 years, including my role as Deputy Ombudsman and Deputy Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner for Saskatchewan, I ensured fairness and transparency in government services. I conducted in-depth analyses of relevant legislation, policies, and bylaws when complaints arose, considering factors like bias or misunderstandings. My work often involved facilitating better communication between service providers and recipients. In cases of significant fairness issues or systemic problems, I led thorough investigations, producing comprehensive reports with findings based on credible evidence. These efforts helped resolve conflicts and maintain effective working relationships within provincial and municipal governments
I believe strongly in work-life balance and finding joy in simple pleasures. For me, this includes daily walks with my dogs and enjoying nature—whether in my backyard garden, trips to northern Saskatchewan or the mountains, and on visits to the shores of Lake Ontario where I grew up. I also enjoy inside time relaxing at home with a book, watching documentaries, and following my favorite sports teams. Most importantly, I’m grateful for my wonderful daughter and my caring partner, who I can share life's ups and downs with and who bring joy and purpose to my life. In the demanding field of trauma and conflict resolution, a strong support network and avenues for self-care are essential, and I’m fortunate to have both.
